Who’s in the best position to make you go big?
It’s your competitor.
Think about it.
If every one of your competitors gave you their clients and customers you’d be huge. Global. Massive. Ginormous. If every one of your competitors suddenly went into retirement, you’d be huge, global… you get the picture.
Your competitor is in the best position to make your business highly successful.
But most every business owner I know fights with their competitor instead of taking advantage of him in a win-win (SUSTAINABLE) strategy. The only companies that actually do take advantage of their competitors are the major Fortune 500s that you see all around you.
What are they doing?
How are they getting their competitors to give them clients?
How can you replicate the strategy at your scale?
Let’s say you have a men’s clothing ecommerce website. Look for others in your industry who are not segment competitors. In other words, contact every single WOMEN’S CLOTHING ecommerce website and make a deal to feature each other in your social media and website. If you do 7 or 8 deals like this, your business will double. That’s the math.
What if you sell both men’s and women’s clothing?
Then find a ton of ecommerce websites that only sell fashion accessories, dummy. Pitch them the same win-win deal.
What if you sell men’s clothing, women’s clothing, and fashion accessories?
Make 3 new websites with three different new brands.
Make a men’s fashion website. Make a women’s fashion website, Make a fashion accessory website. Then contact all your competitors again and get them to link to your new brands. They won’t even know it’s you.
Got it? Just contact all your women’s clothing and fashion accessory ecommerce competitors and tell them that your new website only sells men’s clothing. Repeat.
Is that evil?
Well, are you sending them traffic and business too? Then no. It’s a win-win. Actually, it’s more of a WIN-win.
But that’s what you need to do to compete with the likes of ZARA, J Crew, Tommy Hilfiger, Urban Outfitters, Diesel, etc. I’m sure they’d rather see you get rich and take them with you than get killed by the real giants out there.
