What do you do?
Me? I do what I love. I love sci-fi (Firefly), fantasy (HP, LOTR, Neil Gaiman, etc), cult classics (Boondock Saints), good old fashioned Rock and Roll (Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, etc) and I love woodworking… So, I combined the two. Tables, bookshelves, bookmarks, wooden jewlery, wooden posters, wooden dogtags, artistic guitars, wooden-inlayed lighters and flasks… you name it. Its all done by hand and by me and just about any way you want. Ever wanted a hip flask that honors Boba Fett and Assassin’s Creed? I have that! Want something else? Talk to me!
What are the biggest changes you see happening in your industry?
The beauty of my “industry” is that (to me) its fairly unique, so any changes made are by me and usually only in the upwards direction. Once I’m out of the military, I will pursue this as a full time gig (with a little dabbling in Emergency Medicine on the side) and bo beyond whittling in my spare bedroom and have a full on woodshop. In which I will build grand tables for dining and gaming. I will design and construct whole man caves and buid them in your house, and the big plan is to have a bar in the basement that looks like the inside of Serenity’s common area with a library and all of my custom furniture… where you can order a pint, enjoy it at my tables… and then take the table home.
What opportunities and challenges will these changes bring about?
The challenge (currently) is finding the time when I’m not out in the field with a rifle and a medkit and not being exhausted. Others include keeping things fresh and moving. I can’t rely on other folk’s ideas forever. Hence, why I try to keep my pieces original art that simply honor the genre’s I enjoy. I try not to just copy and paste them on to wood.
What are your biggest goals?
As I said before, my biggest goal is to have this be my career. To be free to live off what I love and always love it. Currently, I work in a world where the incometent are praised and promoted and I find myself unable to live under those boot heels that, in their ignorance, seek to crush dreams. This I cannot abide. SineCera, to me, is freedom… And I will have it.
Other little goals are ending corruption and bullshit in the world like hunger and oppression. But thats nine to five stuff.
Who and what would you need to reach your goals fast?
I have the love and support of my family and friends, who I know will stand by me through anything and everything. That, along with my ability to never be corrupted or compromise (“not even in the face of Armageddon”) will help me right along the way to my goals, so I’m good.
Everybody needs money to get started but it needs to be earned, which I believe I’m doing out here as a Corpsman. Support the troops, folks, we all work hard.
Finally, who should contact you and why?
Who should contact me? Anyone and everyone that would enjoy something made by hand, in America, and by a true (and hopefully humble) craftsman.
