What do you do?
Transdisciplinary Artist & Sculptor
I am a self-taught artist who started out as a photographer. I began work as a serious artist, teaching myself through study and experimentation. My work tries to embody both purpose and abstraction. I am an activist at heart and much of my work has a direct purpose and meaning that goes beyond the abstraction and beauty the viewer may first perceive.
My studio is in New Orleans, Louisiana where I produce both sculptures and paintings. Visitors are always welcome. I sell my work privately and third party agents. I am not currently represented by a gallery.
I mentor emerging artists, sharing experience and ideas and offering advice. I also established the Young Artists Encouragement Initiative to provide support to young artists under 30 years old. I also blog on a variety of art subjects and my personal journeys as an artist.
What are the biggest changes you see happening in your industry?
An awareness in creative people that the internet can drive their art far further than a gallery can if done properly.
What opportunities and challenges will these changes bring about?
The opportunities for creatives are boundless. If we don’t limit ourselves to what the experts say and take chances to create new opportunities for ourselves. The challenges are that the technology is changing quicker than the average person can comprehend. Almost as fast as we grasp it, it changes totally.
What are your biggest goals?
To create a support network for other artists that does not fit the mold of the typical portfolio website, but seeks to encourage artists and allow them to showcase specific pieces of their work and talk about their techniques and inspirations.
Who and what would you need to reach your goals fast?
An interlinked network of creatives that work together to encourage and promote artists. The goal is not to create a massive single entity, but small tightly connected network of people who have an internet presence with a large enough audience.
Finally, who should contact you and why?
Any creative that in the arts, writing and music fields, or any other creative fields that wish to discuss their work.
Thanks! And reshare me in Twitter and Facebook! =)
