How is what you do different from others in your industry?
I’m a leader in this industry and as you would expect I do lots of things differently, for instance I love to ask clients what their average customer is worth to them over the lifetime of the customer. With this information I can work out the return on investment a client should expect in dollar terms. I’m not aware of anyone else doing this in this arena and then when appointed actually working to make it happen.
I also tend to take charge of campaigns as most clients are simply not qualified to make most decisions, instead I ask them to make decisions they are qualified to and I make the others I am qualified to make… leading to a win, win relationship.
I actually think far to many sales people ask clients to make decisions they shouldn’t, a client needs to make a decision to engage you, then it should come down to whoever is the most qualified in that respect makes the decision… this is why over 80% of websites don’t work, because business owners told the developers what they wanted and not what they wanted to achieve (goals).
What is the #1 most important thing you recommend to your clients and customers? WHY?
I recommend all clients judge me on the results I generate and not the prices I charge, I deliver great results but I also charge more than my competitors.
Why because at the end of the day, long after the prices I charge are forgotten the results I generate will be remembered.
What is the #1 biggest myth your customers still believe?
Most of my customers still believe that a typical website that never changes can generate thousands of inquiries each year and if it isn’t, you can just add some magic SEO code in and make it work.
They also believe that the lowest price gives them great value, when in effect it is the greatest return that gives them the best value.
What other sales and marketing tips can you reveal?
I’m a leading expert in the content marketing arena, I’ve been doing this since before Google and before people called it content marketing …. this is how I describe content marketing.
“Good content attracts an audience, telling a good story engages that audience. Marketing gets that audience to do something and only when the two come together do you have content marketing”…. Steve Cartwright
Way too many people spend their time marketing content and not content marketing. By setting things up correctly, maybe with a little training from someone like me, you will know your sales funnel, your buyer persona and the types of content you need to attract people into your funnel and then to progress them through it.
Describe one client / customer experience who benefited from working with you.
I took over the online marketing of an accountants. This company had a website already and had been online for years. Even though the design of the website didn’t change we actually completely redesigned it to make it more SEO friendly as well as user friendly. We commenced our marketing activities and grew their Twitter account from less than a hundred to over ten thousand active followers. We also helped this client generate his first ever website inquiry… after many years online he was amazed and extremely pleased. This is something we have repeated many times now.
Ensure your website includes a blog within it and not external to it. Get yourself a LinkedIn and Twitter account… it then’s just a matter of hitting the publish button, pushing your content on those social media platforms and watching the inquiries come in… if only it was that easy … Well it is …
Just remember 80% of websites never give a ROI … its okay if yours is in this group… however to remember that to continue to do the things you have always done and expect different results is just plain stupid … so that new website will still not work, unless you change something fundamental to it.
